My First Trip Abroad (For Real)
For the longest time, I didn't really have a huge desire to travel out of the country because my thoughts were that I still had so much to see within this beautiful place we call home. But once I quit my job, and more doors and opportunities began to open up for travel, I decided I couldn't wait any longer. It was time. So one evening, my friend Jimmy called me to let me know about his long-time dream of mountain biking from the top of mountains all the way down to the beach, where he'd hop off his bike and paddle out for a surf. Now there aren't too many places in the world that have both mountains and ocean in close proximity. So we did our research and decided that Bali, Indonesia was the place to go.
Outside of the US, I had only been to Canada and Mexico, so going across the world, into a different hemisphere, and fully immersing ourselves into a totally different culture was going to be quite a shock. But after two very long plane rides and 23 hours of total travel time, we had arrived in Bali. Our time was spent on the island ripping around on scooters and trying to figure out the (non-existent) traffic laws, biking into the mountains, surfing in the Indian Ocean, trying new food, and simply just letting the island lifestyle overtake us. Going into this experience, I was fairly nervous just because I didn't know what to expect. But the people on the island are some of the nicest people I've ever met, the food was delicious, and the landscapes and culture of the Indonesian people is so fascinating and beautiful. Bali is a wild place and I hope to return some day to explore even more parts of this island and other Indonesian islands, as well. I took a lot of photos and hope you enjoy getting a little glimpse into our time on this island.
Huge shoutout to The Chillhouse for giving us a place to stay. If you're looking for a beautiful place to stay in Canggu with great food, daily yoga classes, two pools, and the nicest staff in the world, please check them out! You won't regret it.
